I recently designed a model home for Courtland Communities in Surprise Farms, Arizona. In dreaming up the design for this home, I had visions of crisp, fresh white cabinets, ceilings and trim with a modern farmhouse flavor. But how could I achieve the charm of the farmhouse look without breaking the budget? The answer: Board and Batten!
The farmhouse look was a perfect fit for this neighborhood and board and batten is a hands down favorite to create interest and beauty in your space. It takes its origins from Shaker styling and is pared down to a simpler, more classic contemporary look. Almost always painted a crisp white, it creates architectural interest and gives your room personality and quiet drama.
Board and batten on all walls in the dining room created a more formal effect and gave personality to an otherwise simple room. To accomplish this I took the height of the ceiling and divided it into thirds.
I chose board and batten in this long hallway to break up the strong floor pattern and to give interest to the space.
The best part about this wall treatment? It’s inexpensive, especially if you are handy. For step by step instructions, visit: DIY Board and Batten Wainscoting Project
